Little Mister Smarty pants

Jonathan has been learning letters and their sounds lately. We were talking about J is for Jonathan and G is for Grace in the car on the way home from the grocery store. I asked him what G said and he said "G says gggg like Grace or God" I was impressed because I hadn't told him that God started with a G. I asked what J said and he answered "J says jjjjj like Jonathan and Jason and Jesus and Jump. Hey mommy, some people put a line on the top of their Js and other people don't. It is still a J even though it doesn't have a line but I like it with a line better so I think the J in Jonathan has a line on top." He is so smart and picks up on things so quickly!
By the way, his new favorite color is orange. Interesting choice if you ask me but he likes to be an individual.

Snow White's Umbrella

Do you think this umbrella will keep our sweet little Snow White from getting a sunburn? It is the little umbrella that came on my pineapple float at the Tiki Room. Yummy!

While we were at Disneyland several people commented on our blond Snow White. We just told them that Snow White was a natural blond but she didn't want to be confused for Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella so she dyed her hair for the movie. They all accepted that answer. Not one of those people realized that Snow White was made before either of those other movies so our explanation didn't make any sense. Disney newbies!

First Day of School

Nathanael and Matthew officially started school on Tuesday. The first day, however, was just a homeschool day so they didn't have to actually go in to the school until Wednesday. Here they are on their first day at the school. Nathanael is in sixth grade and Matthew is in Fourth. They did not want to pose for the traditional first day off school picture for me but they changed their mind when I informed them they could pose at home or they could pose at school, their choice. They posed at home!

In fact, Nathanael begged for us to drop him off without going in. Matthew knew I had to walk in with him but he did beg for me to make sure Grace was dressed because he didn't want anyone to see her in her pajamas. After dropping them off, Grace cried all the way home because we had "forgotten" her brothers! She was so happy when it was time to go back and get her brothers. She was so excited to see them even though they were embarrased by her. I know in a few years they will no longer be embarrased to have little siblings but it is hard to see them feel that way right now.

Grace got a beautiful new organizer from her grandparents for her birthday (which is still a couple of weeks away but who is counting?) It is beautiful isn't it. Unfortunately it is just missing one thing, toys. Hmmm.
Then Jason and I bought her this cute cubby rack to hold her dolls and stuffed animals. It is beautiful too but well, it is very empty everywhere within reach of two preschoolers. So doesn't this poor deprived girl have any toys. Hmmm....

Here they are! Yep, these two cute preschoolers emptied all the bins and many of the cubbies and put all the toys on the bed. Little boogers. Yes, they spent the next hour putting all the toys back where they belong.

Jonathan told Grace that she was a sinner earlier today. She didn't appreciate it at all. Here is their conversation.

You are a sinner.
No I a good girl.
No, you are a sinner.
I good girl, I am!
No, I am a sinner and you are a sinner and everyone is a sinner except Jesus because Jesus is God and God is not a sinner.

Guess Grace decided she couldn't win the argument because she wandered off. She obviously didn't forget the conversation though because tonight when we got to church she went running up to our friend Whitney and exclaimed;

A Brownie

Here I sit, eating a double chocolate brownie. A brownie that was made by Matthew. A huge brownie. He doubled the recipe which makes it a math project. Just another reason homeschooling is a beautiful thing. Mmmmmmmmmmm!

A Couple of Firsts

Nathanael and Matthew were given new study Bibles by the church today. They were so excited! They said they are going to continue to carry their regular Bibles to church and use their new study Bibles during their quiet time. They are planning their quiet time! Isn't that great?

They also had their first chance to experience the Lord's Supper this morning. What an amazing time to think about who Jesus is and what he did for us. The boys already understood the symbolism involved but this was their first chance to actually partake of the Lord's Supper. Praising God for so many exciting firsts in their lives lately. We do indeed serve an awesome God!

Grace Goes Bowling

Grace had lots of fun at the bowling alley. It was fun playing in the ball racks....

And having everyone cheer when she knocked down some pins.....

And Posing for pictures...

And trying to lift the heavy bowling ball....

Oh yeah, and beating all three brothers was good too!

Way to go Grace

We took the kids bowling this morning with a group for moms that I belong to. It was so much fun. Most of the kids had never bowled before so we had the bumpers raised on all of the lanes our group used. This was a very good thing since I think the median age was around five years old. They had so much fun. Here are a few pictures of their first trip to the bowling alley. (except Nathanael had been there before with a birthday party and with the church youth group.)

After they finished bowling we went to lunch with a couple of other families. We ended up at Long John Silvers because it is right next to the bowling alley. The hats they gave the little ones inspired this video clip.....

A Day To Celebrate!

Today was indeed a day to celebrate. Nathanael and Matthew were baptized and showed that they have decided to make Jesus the Lord of their lives. It was a beautiful day. It was so sweet and joyful and I didn't cry at all..... Okay, so maybe I did a little bit but no one caught it on film so it is all good. Here are the boys in their baptismal robes all ready to go.

Pastor Rick very generously chose to share this momentous occasion with two fellow Southern baptist ministers. Those ministers just happen to be my father and Jason's father. My father baptized Nathanael and Jason's father baptized Matthew. Wow! Here are Nathanael and Matthew with their Grandfathers and our Pastor. The left is Jason's dad, Ken Reed. Pastor Rick Patterson is in the center. The one on the right is my father, Dewey Squyres. I am so glad they got to participate in this public display of the boys' decision.
We are indeed excited that the boys have chosen to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. What could be more exciting than knowing that our children will be spending eternity in Heaven? We are already seeing changes in their attitudes and actions since they became saved last month. God does indeed do amazing work!
After the baptism, when our friend Nance asked Nathanael how he felt he answered, "I feel wet...... and really really happy!"

Jonathan David Reed

Do you remember when you were a kid and your mom said your first, middle and last name you knew you were in big trouble? Well now that I am a mom I find that I do just as much as my own mom did. Jonathan gets in trouble.....a lot. So I say "Jonathan David Reed" a lot. The other day he got mad at me, I don't even remember what about but he very indignantly exclaimed "Mommy David Reed!" Apparently if you are mad at someone, you are supposed to add a "David Reed" to the end of their name.

Jonathan Helps a Friend

We were eating dinner at church the other night. A friend who is diabetic came and sat at out table and he had a piece of watermelon and some chips on his plate. Nothing else. We teased him about it. Jonathan walked up to him and with a tattle tale voice said "oooooohh, your blood sugars are going to CRASH!" Can you tell we have blood sugar issues at our house(Hypoglycemic, not diabetic)? It worked too. The friend went back and got himself some peanut butter for protein. Good job Jonathan.

Naked Tummy!

I went to Bible Study at a friend's house yesterday morning. I took Grace with me. As we were leaving to head home we saw a man across the street who was loading (or unloading, I didn't really pay that much attention) a truck. He wasn't wearing a shirt and had his arms tattooed. Grace, in a loud stage whisper announced,

Mom! Mom! Him has a naked tummy!
Mom! Mom! Him colored on his naked arms!

She says this quiet enough that I don't think the man heard her, but my friends did hear and were quite hysterical. Grace always gets in trouble when she colors on anything but paper so apparently she thought this man was in big trouble.

Entertaining Children

Jason works nights. He gets home from work just after the kids wake up, energetic and ready for the day. This is a problem for Jason's sleep. Therefore, it becomes a problem for me as well. How I am supposed to entertain four children away from home as many mornings a week as possible?

This week we went to a pool party at a friend's house, the free movies, lunch at Wendy's, the Children's museum and tomorrow we have a Bible Study. I am running out of ideas. Entertaining them at home just doesn't work. Even the quietest game becomes noisy with four children. Anyone else have any truly creative ideas for entertaining kids away from home that don't require us being outside in 104 degree weather?

Nathanael and Matthew's Baptism (Updated Post)

Nathanael and Matthew's Baptism
August 16, 2009
10:20 am
First Southern Baptist Church, Hemet

We would love for any of you to come and share our joy in seeing the boys follow through with showing the world that they have accepted Christ. Please let us know if you are planning to be there.

Update: For those of you who can make it that day; after church we will be heading over to Village Pizza on State Street. We will buy pizza for all who let us know ahead of time that they will be there. All you need to buy would be whatever drinks or sides you want to add. Let us know as soon as you can if you will be coming. That way we can call and let them know how many pizzas to make ahead of time so we won't have to wait long once we get there. It should be a fun celebration!
