Matthew's Award

Matthew won a very prestigious award today. His class created faces on pumpkins and then the class voted on winners. He won. Okay, in all fairness he actually tied for first but that doesn't sound nearly as fun. They were supposed to bring a pumpkin to school and bring anything they wanted to create a face but they would not be carving them for obvious safety reasons. We went to the dollar tree store to get supplies and he found some paint and such. Then we passed the Christmas stuff (Yes, they already have it all out) and he says wistfully "I like the snowflakes but they are only for Christmas". He looked so sad. I for one can't stand to see that sad little face if I can do anything about it so I said, "You can have the snowflakes if you want, they can be his hands." There was much joy on his face as he grabs some plastic candy canes and announces they would be arms. Pretty soon we had returned to the shelf the supplies he had already picked out because he had so much Christmas stuff. There was a Santa hat and jingle bells, sparkly garland became a beard. So much excitement. He said his pumpkin would be dressed for Christmas and that was it's Halloween costume. We even went to Michael's and he got a fake pumpkin (Which were 60% off so were about the same price as a real one). He picked a white pumpkin so it would be Christmassy. At school today he put all the stuff onto his pumpkin. He used a ton of tape and glue. It is a very busy looking pumpkin but he was so excited and had so much fun. So what if I spent fifteen dollars getting a pumpkin and supplies and he won a five dollar gift certificate for ice cream? It is all about the joy on the little face when they come up with something great and are able to carry it out to completion.

I do have pictures of the great accomplishment. I will try to get around to adding them tomorrow. For tonight I am done. Goodnight.

John's Incredible OOPS

You know all of those times that the kids do something and you say "I wish I had my camera". Well, we took care of that problem by buying a really small camera that I carry in my purse all the time. We were at John's Incredible Pizza Company the other day. (For those who have never been there, it is kind of like a Chuck E Cheese on steroids. Bigger, better, with rides and a yummy buffet, but more expensive too.) Matthew, Jonathan and Grace wanted to ride a little rocket ride and I decided to take a video. Check out my timing on turning on my camera.
videoOOPS. Don't worry, Daddy was there to make it all better.

A Quiet Day

Today was a really quiet day. Jason took Matthew, Jonathan and Grace to the church he grew up in for the church's fiftieth anniversary. Nathanael is just getting over being sick and simply wasn't strong enough for the trip. I stayed home with him and we had an extremely quiet day. He took a nap, we cleaned the playroom, watched a movie and worked on his math homework. It was almost too quiet.... almost but not quite. Nathanael headed down the hall to use the restroom and came out laughing. He said he walked down the hall super quietly so he wouldn't wake up Grace. It was so quiet that he forgot she wasn't in her room taking a nap. I am sorry he had to be sick but I still enjoyed my quiet day with my oldest son. We don't often get time to just hang out together. So glad he is feeling stronger now and will be able to go to school tomorrow.

Breakfast for Dinner

Tonight we had breakfast for dinner. Tons of yum and very little nutritional value. Who could complain about that? Here are the boys enjoying their bacon, eggs and Cinnamon rolls.

Here is Grace, who was most definitely NOT enjoying her breakfast for dinner. Maybe she is not completely well after all because she once again went to bed willingly shortly after dinner. I know, when a kid is throwing a fit I am not supposed to take their pictures........ but did it anyway. Now you too can enjoy a little sadness with dinner.

All by Herself

The other day Grace decided she was cold and went off to her room to get a sweater. She came out and had gotten in on all by herself? Isn't she talented?
Wait, Maybe a view from the back will help you more fully appreciate her talent for dressing herself. Such a cutie.

Paint A Pumpkin

Grace woke up this morning cheerful and fever free. Thank you to all who were praying for her to feel better. Since she was well I took Jonathan and Grace and we went to Paint a Pumpkin in the park with our mom's group. I put aprons on them to catch all the globs of paint that would otherwise be all over their clothes and wouldn't you know it, they didn't even spill a drop. They had so much fun painting their pumpkins and making new friends. I thought painting would be just fun, but apparantly it is very serious business, at least judging by their expressions while they painted.

Pitiful Girl

Grace is running a fever tonight. It was ninety degrees today and Grace brought me her long pink coat to put on her and informed me she was "told, I told". Tonight she suddenly informs me "I night night" and headed off to bed. This is very unusual behavior for her. Pray that she is able to sleep off whatever seems to be bothering her. Tomorrow we are supposed to paint pumpkins in the park with friends and she will be very sad to miss it since she keeps seeing the pumpkins we bought for tomorrow and wanting to play with them.

Verizon Excitement

Yesterday was a very exciting day for Jonathan. No, we didn't go anywhere special or even do anything out of the ordinary. We were on our way home from preschool and about to pull into our driveway when the most exciting thing was discovered. The phone wires were hanging down from the poles out front and the Verizon truck was there with several men working on it. Since some of the cables were laid out across our driveway, we had to park on the street and then jump over the cables to get into our house. Oh, my was Jonathan excited. He loves all workers, especially if they operate trucks or other machinery. We came in and put Grace down for a nap and Jonathan and Nathanael (whose teacher had a meeting so he was home for the day) sat and looked out the front window. Jonathan even convinced Nathanael to take him out on the front lawn to watch the Verizon man for a while. I could hear Jonathan from inside asking question after question. I was so glad that Nathanael was home or I would have been the one standing outside making up answers for his questions. He was very disappointed when the Verizon men finished their work and moved on. What an exciting afternoon!

Recipes

I am placing all of my recipe cards in a binder. I have Aunt Helen's waffles, Jason's Mom's meatballs, Grandma Gardner's lemon cake and Ramona's Lonesome man stew among others. I need lots more. What are your favorite recipes?

Grace and Gabi

Grace got our friend Gabi to do her nails last night. grace just loves getting her nails done. Then it was Grace's turn to polish Gabi's nails. This was even more fun for Grace
I took a picture of Gabi's nails after Grace was done but decided not to post it since it seriously looked like she had been attacked and was bleeding all over. Oops.
This afternoon Grace a was supposed to be taking a nap when she got way too quiet way too fast. I went to see what she was doing and found her sitting on her bed with her nail polish. She had climbed on top of her dresser to get it. She had opened every bottle of polish and had painted her face, hands and feet. She had also gotten some on her sheets and comforter. I don't think Grace will be getting her nails done for quite some time.

Borrowed Mommy

I borrowed my friend Terry's mommy, Ramona, today. We drove to Riverside to take some stuff to my grandma. We had a really nice visit. We took Jonathan and Grace with us. On the way home Jonathan was trying to get Ramona to come home and spend some time at our house. He said she could come visit. Then he said "we can't keep Grandma Ramona unless we ask Daddy first." Like she was a stray puppy that he wanted to bring home. Such a funny little guy. Thank you Terry for letting me borrow your mommy.

Jonathan Discovers the Teacups

Nathanael and Jonathan on Jonathan's first teacup ride. He liked it a lot.....
Here he is on his second teacup ride five minutes later.......
He was trying to make it spin faster and faster.....
Pure Joy!
And here he is on his third teacup ride five minutes after that. He would have kept riding but Mommy was quite finished, thank you very much. Yes, I did ride it with them all three times. Jason doesn't do teacups. He took Matthew and Grace on Alice in Wonderland.

videoAnd Finally, a video of his first ride. Beware, the teacups are spinning!

Quality Time?

Does it count as family quality time if three out of four of the children are sharing one computer?

100 Posts

This is my hundredth post. Very exciting. I feel like I should have something exciting to say or something but I don't. Sorry that I haven't been posting in the last week but we have been busy. My parents came to town for my cousin's wedding and they also were house hunting. I spent an afternoon searching for houses with them. They found one they really like and made a bid on it. Now they just have to wait.

The kids are doing great in school. Nathanael got his first report card from his new school and has all As. In fact, his teacher gives them extra credit work each week to do if they need extra practice and she came to me yesterday and asked that he stop doing quite so much extra credit work because his score is well over 100% in the class. We should probably move him to the next class up but he was getting really frustrated in the algebra class so I had him moved to this one. He is after all only in fifth grade. Pretty soon I won't be able to help him with his homework.

Matthew is doing great too. He is really good at math as well. I don't know where these kids got it. He does not however, enjoy cursive writing. It usually reduces him to tears so that has been fun.

Jonathan is still being very three. His moments of sweetness sometimes seem few and far between with the moments of threeness.

Grace is getting really big. She is starting to realize that her two oldest brothers are pushovers that she can make give her anything she wants if she pulls out the tears. Only Jonathan stands his ground with her. He gives in to no one.

Anyway, that is all that has been going on around here. I can't believe it has been one hundred posts already. Guess I have too much to say.

Wedding with Grandma

On Saturday it was my cousin Jonathan's wedding. It was so beautiful. The kids mostly behaved. Grace just kept wanting to sing during the wedding. My grandmother has been staying with my aunt and uncle in New Mexico for the last couple of months and we have missed her. Here are some sweet pictures of her and the kids. My Jonathan was being very three that night and refused to be in any pictures. It got kind of late and Jason decided it was time to get the kids home. My mom didn't want to leave yet so I decided to stay with her. We were so glad we stayed. Time for the dollar dance came along and my Grandma decided she wanted to dance with Jon. It was so sweet. He gently helped her from her wheelchair and danced around the floor with her. There were very few dry eyes. Cameras were flashing all over the place. It was truly a moment to treasure. We all love you Grandma, very much.

Princess Grace

Grace this morning reading a book. Don't you just love the little bare feet? So cute.
When Grace woke up from her nap I went to get her and this is how she was dressed. Apparently she had found this string of beads one of the band members at Disneyland gave to her and this green hairband that she thought was a necklace. She pointed to herself and said "Pess" I couldn't figure it out. She kept repeating "Pess". Finally I figured out that she was trying to tell me she was dressed as a princess. She also got new earrings today because after two years with the other ones she finally pulled them out and lost them. We only were able to find one of them. I think it was an excuse to trade in the purple earrings I had chosen for her for pink ones that she picked out for herself. She is trying to show them to the camera but managed to make them impossible to see instead. Funny little princess.
